Small group travel is the best way to see the real North
America. By travelling with an international group (maximum
13 passengers), you will enjoy the companionship, comfort
and safety of group travel, while maintaining the freedom,
flexibility and individualism of independent travel. When
you travel with AmeriCan Adventures, you will also have access
to places where the larger buses cannot go, places that most
tourists never get to experience.
You travel in the ultimate small group vehicles - American-made
Ford or Dodge Maxiwagons. Each vehicle is fully equipped
with seating for 13 passengers, air-conditioning, seat belts,
stereos and heavy-duty suspension. Luggage and camping equipment
is stored on the custom-made roofrack protected from the elements
by a heavy duty tarpaulin.
The AmeriCan Adventures fleet of maxiwagons are all recent
models and regularly serviced to ensure reliability. The best
thing about our vehicles is our ability to travel the scenic
backroads of the USA, Canada and Alaska, places that are not
accessible by bus or train.
Every trip is led by an AmeriCan Adventures leader trained
to deliver a top quality adventure. Prospective leaders
have to pass an extensive training course before they are
qualified to lead our tours.
They love life on the road and take pride in showing you
the best their country has to offer! He/she will organise
the day around the group's preferences, book your activities
and provide you with plenty of ideas for your free time in
the cities. Travelling with our guide is like visiting a local
friend who knows all the best things to see and do.

If you have never camped before, relax… most of your
fellow group members wil not have either. On the first
camping day we show you how to erect your tent. After that
it will take you less than 10 minutes to do it yourself. Our
heavy duty tents are designed for 4 people, but you will share
with just one other, leaving plenty of room for baggage. and
to move about. We will provide all camping and cooking equipment
so you will only need to bring your sleeping bag.
Campsites vary from beautiful wilderness areas to comfortable
recreational sites with shops and swimming pools. We keep
"roughing it" to a minimum - all sites have toilets
and showers available. Camping with AmeriCan Adventures is
easy and fun… you'll love it.
In certain cities the camping facilities are either
inconvenient or unacceptable. Unlike some tour operators,
we want to keep you close to the action, so we use inexpensive
hotels, right in the heart of the city. We reserve a block
of rooms for each group, and you pay the tour leader on the
spot. The price for a multi-share is approximately US$35 per
person. On the itineraries, these hotel stops are marked (H).
Eating is an important part of any AmeriCan Adventures
tour! Just because you may be travelling on a budget doesn't
mean you can't eat well. AmeriCan Adventures trips use a food
kitty system which covers the cost of all campsite meals.
Everyone pays US$6 (US$7 for tours in Alaska and Canada) per
day.
You will eat fresh foods purchased locally, and enjoy a wide
range of cuisine cooked by you and your fellow travellers.
Every type of food is available from fresh salads and pasta
to steaks, chicken and seafood. Don't worry, we can cater
for all dietary needs. In addition to the culinary delights
creating at the campsites, the group may decide to dine out
in a restaurant at their own cost. Eating out gives you the
chance to mix with the locals and the opportunity to experience
many different styles of food.
